Love will set us free. And love is the inspiration behind singer and songwriter, Goapele's new album, "Strong as Glass". We strolled through the streets of Venice with the California native, and talked about yoga, travel, and how music influences the world around us.
Spiritual Gangster:  What are some simple things you do in your daily life to be the change you want to see in the world?

Goapele: I try to bring people together through my music. I’m present in my daily life, especially with my daughter. And it’s important to me to disconnect from the my cell phone and computer, and just appreciate how special life is.

Spiritual Gangster: How does music and yoga/spirituality intersect for you?

Goapele: Music and yoga both push me to grow into the best version of myself. There are moments of clarity that are very spiritual for me…moments where I am thankful for exactly where I am, and moments where I see how far I’ve come. And there are still more moments where I believe I will get to where I still want to go.

Spiritual Gangster: Who are some of your biggest music inspirations?

Goapele: Sade is my biggest music inspiration, because she has created her own space in the music world, and seems to do everything on her own terms and pace.

Spiritual Gangster: What is the inspiration behind your new album?

Goapele: The main inspiration behind “Strong as Glass” is love; the beginning, the middle, and what sometimes feels like the end, only to discover new passions, and how everything happens for a reason.

Spiritual Gangster: What is your favorite quote/ mantra?

Goapele: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure…As we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same”

Spiritual Gangster: What does being a Spiritual Gangster mean to you?

Goapele:  It means being fierce, grounded, and spiritually open.
