Spiritual Gangster sat down with the radiant Alexis Stoudemire, and talked all things family, spirituality, health and fitness tips, and her love of all things Beyonce. Follow along with Alexis on her travel adventures this summer, why family comes first, and her training for the New York Marathon this coming November.
Spiritual Gangster: What does being a Spiritual Gangster mean to you?
Alexis Stoudemire: To me, a Spiritual Gangster is a leader, who exudes personal confidence and challenges themselves to be the best version of themselves. They can be anyone; any gender, race, religion, just someone who exudes confidence and pride in who they are.
SG: What is one thing you would tell your younger self?
AS: Be patient. When you’re younger, you want everything right away. Everything happens at it’s own pace, so just try and be patient.
SG: What is key for a successful marriage?
AS: Communication first and foremost. Amar’e and I are best friends, so we talk about everything. We’ve known each other since we were 19, and have grown up together; traveling, learning, and now raising a family together. Another key is being active. We’re active together as a couple, with our children, and with our family. We love cooking and messing up the kitchen, getting out to explore whatever city we’re in, and even just walking to some of the great parks here in New York.
SG: How is your training for the NYC Marathon going?
AS: It’s going really well. I’ve been training all summer, and got to run in some amazing places, like Cancun, South Africa, Florida, Kentucky, and of course NYC. My running shoes are my best friends right now, I take with them with me everywhere I go.
SG: Do you have a favorite kind of music you like listening to while you’re running?
AS: I love some good female empowerment music, anything Beyonce, Rihanna, Niki Minaj. I love music with a great beat and high energy to get me pumped up for my runs.
SG: What is your favorite mantra?
AS: “ I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me”.
