POSE OF THE DAY: HANDSTAND
There is an amazing amount of clarity that comes to us when we look at our lives with a different perspective. That is one of the many reasons we chose Adho Mukha Vrkasana, or handstand, as our pose of the day today. As the first day of spring, today starts a new beginning in a very literal way. But we are always in the choice of making a new start for ourselves by changing our perspective of our world and of ourselves.
Handstand pose is an exciting addition to any yoga practice, for it is the foundation for most inversion poses. This pose can help decompresses the spine, strengthen the shoulders and back, improves a sense of balance, and can even help relieve headaches and mild depression.
For beginners, try practicing a handstand against a wall, and even begin in a head stand position to help center your balance. When you become more comfortable with your abilities in this pose, you will be able to do a handstand whenever, and where ever you choose. Similarly, we can change our perceptive of the world no matter what we are doing or where we are at.So in honor of the first day of Spring, spring forward with a healthy outlook, and try our pose of the day!
